SOGES S.p.A., in the frame of the Framework Contract Lot 4 “Energy and Nuclear Safety” and in consortium with Danish Management, has been awarded the contract for the implementation of the project “Support the Dialogue with European Partners on a Strategic National Smart Grid Vision for the South African Electricity Industry”.

A smart grid is an electrical network equipped with smart sensors that collect information in real time, optimizing the distribution of energy. Smart grids are a key point for the South African National Energy Development Institute’s development strategy and this tender aims to provide a technical assistance to support the realization of a policy document about smart grids implementation in the country. The Smart grids revolution consists in a new way to manage and controlling the electrical distribution infrastructures thanks to the utilization of IT instruments. This allows to facilitate the matching between the electrical supply with the demand in an economically and environmentally way.

The project aims mainly at:

• improving the energy policy cooperation between the EU and South Africa in the areas implied in the Strategic Partnership Action Plan
• increasing the institutional capacity
• promoting smart grid policy development through the realization of a South African Smart Grid Vision document
